DANCE FEVER
By STEVE NADER
RECORDS
France Joli fans will be delighted to hear that "Gonna Get Over You" has reached #4 on the national charts.
To push the record even further, Prelude Records is releasing a panish version of the 12" prior to the release of the up-coming album. The new version was recorded in Mexico City and is supposedly a spicy session. Watch for it!!!
Vicki Sue Robinson was responsible for rocking the disco world as the industry began to emerge in the mid seventies with "Turn the Beat Around", "Daylight", and "Hold Tight", among others. Her first release on Prelude Records (this label just won't stop) is the single "Hot Summer Night". Although low tempo (hurray!), the track sizzles with her long time producer Warren Schatz. "What do you do when you're hot, and you just ain't got a lot... Well you dance, and you sing, and you do some crazy things!!!" Add to that a definite "RatTat Tat Tat Tat on the drums...", all very familiar and extremely potent. The flip side is for extended instrumental mixes.
For those who wanted to buy the Motown 12'ers of Rick James's "Give It To Me Baby" and Teena Marie's "Square Biz", they are finally commercially available. The "Super Freek" 12" is still promotional only at this time by Rick James. His album is quite tasty, and lyrically is almost as filthy as your typical Prince record.
Deborah Harry, lead singer from Blondie, who stunned the dance music community with "Rapture", now is on her own, and prefers to be referred to as "Debbie Harry." The new 12" is claaed "Backfired" and initial club play in Detroit is strong.
For Boystown Gang fans, the instrumental version of "Cruisin' the Streets" is out, that should extend the life of the record with the also included "Remember Me/Ain't No Moun-
Park Avenue Bath
tain High Enough Suite" remixed by Joe LaGreca and Denis LePage. "DiscCharge" will be the new album, preceded by the new, just released 12" called "You're the One" and "Disco Kicks", the latter of which ahs already been released on JDC Records by a group called The Original Mass. Sounds of the Big Bands emerge here as a sort of high energy, Carnival type of texture.
Speaking of Carnival, THE winter event in Rio every year, we find Rita Lee and Roberto, with their release "Lansa Perfume", pronounced Lansa PER-FOO-MAY. Translated, Lansa Perfume is a cheap high used for over fifty years at Brazilian Carnival. It was sprayed about liberlly into the crowds, but has recently been banned. Although the lyrics are in Portugeese, the record sales overseas has topped the one million mark!! John Luongo has done the remix on a Pavillion 12".
Claudja Barry's "Radio Action" continues to build in response, with strong club play in Fr. Lauderdale and Atlanta as well as medium response throughout the country. The Polydor import Ip also includes "Love Control" as well as "Take Me Back". An American release of this product is just around the corner.
Herbie Hancock's new 12" is called "Magic Number", featuring the lead voclas of SYLVESTER!!! Produced flawlessly at a low 106 BPM tempo, the track pulls it's energy into a nine and a half minute groove that's really nice.
The Rolling Stones new album is "Tattoo You" and the new dance 12" release is called "Start Me Up".
Although a short cut of only three minutes, it's unmistakeably Mick, and the cover is too much! Black patent leather stiletto heels, half covered with fur. Hopefully available in a size nine. Til week after next, Keep Dancin'!
